Born
in Buffalo, NY and Raised in both Buffalo, NY and
Shreveport, La, Kristen Becker has the kind of
tested perspective one gains from spending half of her
time in the north and the other half in the deep
south.
Honestly, she hates herself, but is usually too
polite to let herself know. After 12 years in a
Catholic school (yep, twelve, for those of you keeping
track, that's pretty much ALL of them), she attended a
Methodist college for one glorious semester, where she
joined a sorority and vowed to do things the right
way. After dropping out of numerous universities, and
much, much drunken debauchery mixed with a lot of road
trips, she knew it was time to chase the dream- the
comedy dream.
Kristen began her
comedy career at one of those workshops
that comedy club owners put together in
an effort to pay the bills and maybe find
a comic amongst the ten business men
hoping to improve their public
speaking.
Kristen spent weeks preparing material
for her four minutes on stage. Also,
vomiting. Once on stage however, there
was no question that was where she
belonged. From the beginning, she has
been a crowd favorite, earning the tag
line "comic daredevil" for her
ability to push the envelop both onstage
and off. A DIY sort of girl, Kristen has
been a driving force behind numerous
shows, from Stand-up to Sketch to
Burlesque, producing hundreds of shows in
her young career. She has written,
directed and performed with The Stripteasers
Burlesque. Together the girls
wrote and produced three full length
burlesque shows in the style of old
vaudeville- for The Stripteasers,
skits are as important as pasties. This
allowed Kristen to write the style of
politically fused, sexually charged
comedy that made up old school burlesque,
all the while being surrounded by hot
women. Not a bad job, at all.
In the Stand-up
world, Becker has opened for the likes of
Georgia Ragsdale, Jen Kober and Bob
Smith, to name a few. She was the Winner
of the Queen City Comedy Competition
2006, beating out 60 other contestants,
all men. Feminism 1, Boys 0.
Kristen continues to
run a weekly open mike room in Buffalo,
"Doin' Time", which showcases
the best in
regional stand up comedy, as
well as touring professionals. On her
thirtieth Birthday, Becker thought touring was what she
needed, and having never really enjoyed
working for anyone else, created The
Dykes Of Hazard Comedy Tour,
featuring the best in
lesbian/gay/queer/just not mainstream and
boring, comedians, the DOH comedy tour
hit the states hard this past fall,
hitting twelve cities and leaving the
ladies wanting more. Kristen is currently keeping
busy touring cities for the "2007 Summer Clambake
Tour", and booking more shows . Kristen is also
excited to be featured in a recent issue of Curve Magazine
(April 2007). She refuses to stop until
she can pay her rent a year at a time, in
cash.
